Robert Deutschman

Robert Deutschman is a photographer native to southern Carolina who was originally a painter and sculptor. He began shooting fashion photography as a college student as a way to help pay for his tuition. Now he travels the world and is mostly known for his shooting fashion photography for celebrities and high end brands like Kohl's, JCPenney, Men’s Wearhouse and plenty others. From flipping through his portfolio there are plenty of things that catch my eye! One positive from his work is his interesting use of lighting. He seems to boost the highlights of his images while maintaining a high contrast as well. His composition is very consistent throughout; I like how the variety of movements from the models compliments the framing. Just like his portfolio, his website also shared a wide variety of image categories like hospitality, advertising, lifestyle and more. It seems that hospitality and advertisements are where he produces the most. I enjoyed his website’s design from of it’s minimalistic detail because it allowed me to view more of his images from the home page. This is a layout method I am currently seeking for my personal site. The front page is heavily curated and from those images, you’re able to gather enough information about what type of photographer he is. This shows he has extensive work in a variety of areas.Overall his work is something to admire; I am inspired by his technique, curation, and variety. His style of layout is something I will look to incorporate on my site moving forward.

Edmund Fraser

Edmund Fraser is a fashion photographer and director who specializes in commercial imagery throughout his portfolio. He is a European artist who is mostly known for his work with Adidas, Puma, Vice, Disney and others. There are definitely some positive and negative takeaways from the work he’s provided. My first takeaway is that he is very creative when it comes to his composition. He seems to enjoy playing around with angles, but that is displayed on his website not his workbook portfolio. I also liked his “GIF” images on his website because it was innovative and different from the previous “photo only” layouts. I was drawn to his work by his use of color throughout his images because it is something I like to emphasize on in my own work. One negative take away is that I wanted more work to be shown from him on both the website and workbook portfolio, but nonetheless the work is consistent throughout. His website layout lacks content which leaves plenty of negative space and confusion for the visitor. I often found myself “lost” on which page I was on several times. This could be because some pages contain three or less images. If I were to rate his portfolio from one to five, it would be a four because the webpage and portfolio was lacking content, but besides that, the content itself was interesting, strong and maintained true to the artist’s stylistic choice. In conclusion, this portfolio left me wanting to stay updated on their work because of their ability to create innovative images.
